Benjamin Clapp papers, 1811-1821 (inclusive), [microform].

The papers consist of a typescript of a diary kept by Benjamin Clapp during his voyages from New York, 1811-1821. The bulk of the diary describes two trading voyages, the first on the Columbia River and the second to China. The greatest amount of detail is given to the years 1813-1815 and concerns Clapp's efforts to return to New York City in the midst of the War of 1812 and his adventures in the Hawaiian Islands.
